John & Jeff met at KPWR-FM, Power 106, Los Angeles in 1989. The
duo worked together hosting a thousand radio station promotions and
events throughout Southern California.
During his ten years at
Power 106, Jeff worked in programming and served as emcee of numerous
motion picture world premieres, movie screenings, Los Angeles concert
events, theme park openings, nightclubs and national client promotions.
John held various management positions at Power 106 including Director of Marketing and Promotions. In 1994 and 1995, John was nominated Billboard Magazine’s Major Market Marketing and Promotions Director of the Year.
In 1992, during the height of the Los Angeles riots, John was
instrumental in creating and producing an unprecedented city-wide “Stop
The Violence” talk show hosted by Arsenio Hall, broadcast live on 12 Los
Angeles radio stations.
After five years, John decided it was time to get back on the air. He
moonlighted as a 6-Midnight weekend Top 40 Disc Jockey at KAVS/KAVL in
Lancaster, California under his Rhode Island DJ name, “Johnny B.”
In 1994, John encouraged Jeff to send his audition tape to the
Lancaster station, and soon Jeff was hired as the weekend Disc Jockey
under the name “Michael Cruz.” Jeff was amused by John's recorded
off-air telephone conversations with listeners and approached John about
working as a duo. John & Jeff soon began working in a Burbank,
California production studio as talk radio hosts.
John & Jeff got their first listener by accident, when a radio
executive borrowed John's boom-box for his daughter's birthday party. A
cassette of The John & Jeff Show was inside. To John’s surprise,
the executive listened to the tape and expressed an interest in
producing the show.
In 1998, after six months of telephone calls to CBS talk station
KLSX, John convinced Program Director, Jack Silver to take a chance on
The John & Jeff Show. Three months later, The John & Jeff Show
debuted under the name “Buried Alive from 3-5am.” One year later in
January 1999, The John & Jeff Show was signed to a full-time
contract with the CBS/Infinity station.
In 2000, The John & Jeff Show signed a nationally syndicated radio contract.
In 2009, The John & Jeff Show celebrated its 10th year in national syndication.
